Restoration of Shangri-La

Windshield Removed

We recently completed a restoration on Shangri-La, a classic Bunker and Ellis 26' runabout.

Built in 1958 by Raymond Bunker, who was from Great Cranberry Island, the boat had been stored at Newman and Gray for 15 years.

She is historically significant because she is not only a Bunker and Ellis but the smallest boat that they ever produced.

After 50 years of service Shangri-La needed some major repairs.

The coamings, all the decks, deck carlin's, transom, windshield, stern seats, engine box, rub rail, toe rail, and several deck beams were replaced.

Transom Removed

All elements of the boat that were replaced were returned to their original form. As you can tell from the pictures, this entailed varnished mahogany fastened with bronze and finished to the highest degree.

This boat is an excellent example of the high degree of craftsmanship at Newman and Gray.
