Restoration of Old Squaw a Newman 32

Full ahead...
The Old Squaw reaches a top speed of 20 knots with a 330 hp Crusader engine.
At lower speeds the engine noise is barely audible due to the extensive insulation that was installed.
She is a seakindly boat as you can find and the owner has made several trips from Little Cranberry Island, ME to Conneticut

Old Squaw, built by Jarvis Newman in 1979, recently returned to Newman and Gray Boatyard for a much needed renovation.

The work was motivated by a recent change of hands.

Old Squaw's new, second owner replaced her engine, but, while pleased with the boat's improved performance and added power, he desired a much quieter ride and a more yacht-like fit and finish.

Newman and Gray brought Old Squaw into their shop in the early fall of 2008 in order for her to undergo a long list of improvements.

Since then, the mufflers have been relocated and the steering updated.

In addition, soundproofing was laid down the center of the boat in order to create a souundproof tunnel in which the engine now sits.

Steering supports are fiberglassed in.

Hangers and mufflers are installed.

Her substantially tall owner also requested that Newman and Gray raise the standing shelter six inches in order to provide him more headroom while standing at the helm.

The interior of the boat was completely removed with only the varnished ceilings and chain locker bulkhead remaining original.

A new v-berth, head, and galley were built.

TThe boat's systems were also entirely updated, including the waste tanks, battery and electrical systems, in addition to installing a new steering system.

Finally, the boat received a coat of Awlgrip on the hull, deck, and wheelhouse.

Old Squaw now looks better than new.
