The Duffy 26 was first designed in 1986 and has been a proven hull for over twenty years. Typical of most boats that Newman and Gray builds, the Duffy 26 is a built down semi-displacement hull that is designed for excellent sea keeping. The overall length of the boat is 26'3" and the maximum beam is 9'6". The graceful sheer and tumblehome in the transom provide a very traditional look. She is to be used by the yard as a year around boat.
The boat was purchased as a bare hull. Newman and Gray has done this in the past finishing off several Duffy and Duffy and of course many Newman hulls. The hull is solid fiberglass and the top and deck are balsa cored. The boat is to be powered by a 320 horsepower Volvo-Penta swinging a 20" four blade propeller. Top speed is 29 knots with cruising at a comfortable 15 knots.
The layout on the boat is customized for carrying passengers and cruising year around between the islands. Just forward of the chain locker in the bow is a head with sink. Aft of this are 4'6" benches port and starboard. The sole of the forward cabin is varnished fir with varnished fir ceilings. The pilot house is completely enclosed with two opening doors to the cockpit.
Varnished ceilings and trim continue in the pilot house. One of the interesting features of the interior is that the companionway has a half bulkhead on the port side which gives the boat a much more spacious feeling. The pilot house and cockpit have a bare fir platform for ease of maintenance while retaining a traditional appearance.
